Tried to do my own thing, but the trouble with your own thing is you end up on your own.

So, I finally gave in and had my gross big toe looked at by a doctor. Turns out it was an ingrown toenail and the surgery took literally around twenty minutes from anesthetic injection (ouch!) to bandaging finished. I can't believe I walked with this thing for so many months.

Spending time with old friends here in Santa Barbara has been great as always and because of July 4, I get an extra week before my class really starts, so it will be a little longer before I head back down. We'll head over to Big Sur for some camping and hiking next week. Then, I'll be down in SD to pursue the things that need to be pursued.

There's a destination a little up the road...

Mexico. Seven days. It was so great I don't know where to start so I'll begin by mentioning the only thing about the trip I didn't like: the hotel room shower. The shower was so pitifully weak that it was horrible, but that horribleness was mitigated by how hilarious it was that every 4-8 seconds, the temperature of the water would change randomly, ranging from way too hot to way too cold and everywhere inbetween. We basically stopped bothering with it half way through the trip and started using the spa for showers. Oh god the spa. As my sister Alex said, if I ever have the money to build my own house, it's going to have a spa.

The trip basically consisted of me sleeping in every day, getting up and reading at the beach, then swimming a few lap in the pool, then out to an early dinner, and whatever we decided to do for the night. The weather was perfect and it was nice to spend a lot of time with my family, who I haven't seen much since December. Every night I'd read some more and listen to good music since the only thing on TV at night in English was bad Cinemax softcore porn.

Anyway, now I'm looking forward to a week in Santa Barbara before heading to San Diego to start class and find a job for the summer. Life is good.

Let's have bizarre celebrations. Let's forget who, forget what, forget where...

Sun God 2007. You know, considering how completely unreligious I am, one would think I would really be able to get into the hedonism of this sort of thing. And yet, I just watch everyone else act like idiots and feel happy that I'm at a point in my life where I don't need to act like an idiot to have fun. Ah well. The day was pretty decent anyway; we started at Roundtable, drinking and playing silly party-card games for a few hours until Robert got drunk and couldn't talk anymore. Then I wandered around with the alumni crew (Danny, Jeff, Jason Nunag, Guang, Kevin, etc) and ended up at SGL where we hung out generally being bored. It was at this point that Amit wandered off and I lost track of him.

So, being bored, we wandered around campus looking for something to do and eventually ended up at Ed's apartment in 6th college when I got a call from Jackie and Renee asking me if they could drop Amit off with us because they needed to leave campus. I got the distinct feeling that this meant trouble, and sure enough, they show up with Amit and he is just completely blitzed. He couldn't talk, couldn't really walk without help, and interestingly, no one knew (and we still don't know) where or how he got drunk. So, we knew we had to get him off campus as soon as possible and made our way toward the library to take the shuttle to Regents where my car was parked. As luck would have it, we got stopped not once but twice by security, both times them taking Amit's information down and both times them telling Kevin and I "If it weren't for you two, we would have to take your friend to a drunk tank." Good times.

Anyway, we made it home safely and around midnight, I went over to Navdeep's and hung out with her, Jen, and Abby, though Jen and Abby quickly fell asleep and Navdeep and I basically spent the night telling each other stories about our sordid pasts. All in all, not a bad day.

If heaven doesn't exist, what will we have missed? This life is the best we've ever had.

Long weekend at Mataguay, and I loved every minute as usual. There was a little drama since some of the newer people didn't really know that Mataguay was going to be very... far from civilization, but in general, I thought everyone did a great job, even the people who were a little nervous at first. Six hours of strenuous service followed by an awesome dinner and a campfire complete with stupid jokes and riddles. Food was much better this time around since we bought. Shame on you, all of you who missed it!

It also reminded me that I need to setup some sort of camping trip this summer with everyone back in Santa Barbara.

Oh, don't you know it's right to be self-aware and filled with light?

Ended up having to go to Sears to have my battery and alternator belt replaced (sinking more money in this ancient car) and we only have fifteen people for Mataguay. For some reason though, I still feel good and I can't put my finger on why.
